Back-to-basics camping in 2020

Back-to-basics tent camping at Pete's Field

Pete’s Field camping season for summer 2020

We’ve started taking bookings for this year’s pop-up camping season at Cole Farm! We’ll be opening the gates to Pete’s Field and welcoming campers and glampers from Friday July 3rd to Sunday September 6th. Although it’s only eight weeks – it’ll be our longest season yet with more time for back-to-basics camping and simple bell tent glamping in the Garden of England. If you’ve stayed with us before, we’d love to welcome you back – and if you’d love to come, head straight to our booking page to book your pitch or bell tent.

If you’re new to Pete’s Field (or even new to camping), here are a few reasons you might like to book a stay…

Camping in the Kent Downs

Cole Farm in Paddlesworth, where Pete’s Field campsite will be popping up, falls within the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The area is described by the organisation which protects it as being “home to some of the most enchanting landscapes in southern Britain”. We feel very lucky to be able to spend time in this special place while running the campsite and love to share it with campers too. Pete’s Field itself looks out across farmland and, as it faces west, often has views of glorious sunsets.

Camping near Folkestone

Our campsite may feel pretty rural but it’s actually very close to the seaside at Folkestone, which is a popular place to visit these days. Stay with us and you can easily find out what all the fuss is about. The harbour and Old High Street, where most of the action is, are just four miles down the road. It’s a long walk or a short drive away and we can provide information on things to do there and on our favourite places to eat and drink. There’s more information on our Area page too.

Back-to-basics camping

As a pop-up campsite on a small working farm, we have to keep things simple. Outside of camping season the field is grazed by cows and used by farmer Kev to grow their winter feed – so, at the end of the season, we have to pack everything away and leave it just the way we found it. From a campers’ point of view, that means you should expect a back-to-basics camping experience: simple, shared toilets, an outdoor washing-up area, a rustic bucket shower, cooking on campfires and no electricity. It’s not for everyone, but lots of people love it!

Bell tent camping

As well as back-to-basics camping, we also have four bell tents set up and available to rent. It’s very much back-to-basics glamping as you’ll be sharing the same facilities as everyone else and we won’t make the bed for you. But if you’re used to camping or keen to get under canvas but don’t have your own tent, our bell tents are a great option. Take a look at our bell tent page for more on what to expect from bell tent camping at Pete’s Field.
