Two-day guided walk with camping or glamping – Sept 14-15th, 2019
Fancy a couple of days camping and walking the North Downs Way? Our Weekend on the North Downs Way is the perfect way to immerse yourself in the beautiful scenery of rural Kent. Join our walk on Saturday and Sunday September 14th-15th to walk from Wye to Dover with an overnight stay at Pete’s Field Campsite. There’ll be stops along the way for meals at country pubs and cafes – but be aware this is not your average Sunday stroll! The route we take will cover a distance equivalent to a marathon over two days so we’ll need to walk at a moderate pace to reach our final destination on the Dover seafront. If that sounds like too much, how about booking a stay at Pete’s Field Campsite and following a shorter route on the North Downs Way? If you’re up for the challenge… read on!
An experienced guide
The 25-mile-walk is split over two days (approximately 13.5 miles on the first day, 11 miles on the second) and takes in some of the most beautiful scenery on the national trail. Amy (who runs Pete’s Field along with partner Pete) is a trained North Downs Way Ambassador. She knows the trail well and is a confident map reader – so you won’t have to worry about navigation. However, it is a challenging walk with lots of ups and downs, some stiles to scramble over and walking on uneven terrain. Anyone wanting to join the walk needs to have a comfortable pair of walking boots and the get-up-go to walk all day (with a stop for lunch, of course)!
Camping or glamping at Pete’s Field
Accommodation will be at Pete’s Field Campsite, not far off the trail at Paddlesworth, where you can stay in your own tent or choose the super-easy glamping option and stay in a bell tent. The campsite has beautiful rural views, flushing toilets, rustic open-air bucket showers and is just 400 steps from The Cat and Custard Pot pub where the group will refuel with a hearty dinner (at own cost). Best of all, Pete will be providing a baggage transfer service – so, whether you choose the glamping or camping option, you won’t have to carry your overnight kit while you’re walking the North Downs Way.
Food, transport and timings
Breakfast will be provided on site at the start of the second day and there will be a stop for lunch at a pub or cafe on both days. The walk is from Wye to Dover – where the route meets the sea and the official North Downs Way finish line. We’ll be setting off from Wye at 8.30am on Saturday September 14th and should reach Dover around 5pm on the Sunday. Both Wye and Dover have railway stations and the walk will start and finish at them. Both stations provide a direct line to London with highspeed trains taking around an hour to reach St Pancras. Alternatively, if you need to return to Wye, the journey between Wye and Dover also (despite the shorter distance) takes around an hour with a change at Ashford.
The details and the damage
Our Weekend on the North Downs Way is intended to be a small-group walk with a maximum of 12 walkers. But minimum numbers must be reached for the walk to go ahead so bookings will not be confirmed until/unless these numbers are reached. For more details or to book your place (subject to minimum numbers) on our Weekend on the North Downs Way, call Amy on 07588 379844. Prices are as follows and include two days guided walking, overnight accommodation at our campfire-friendly campsite and one breakfast (lunches and dinners are at own cost):
- Camping and walking: £85 per person
- Glamping and walking: £155 per person – single occupancy of bell tent
- Glamping and walking for two: £117.50 per person (two sharing a bell tent, must be booked together at a total cost of £235)
Please note: bell tents at Pete’s Field have a comfy mattress on a futon base but do not include bedding so you will need to bring your own. We recommend a sheet, pillow, sleeping bag/duvet and extra blanket. Baggage transfer is included so you will not need to carry this on your walk.
